Independence Day

Leo and I couldn't think of a better place to spend Independence Day than at our Nation's capital.  We spent the evening on the lawn in front of the Capitol Building watching a free concert and then the fireworks.

The fireworks show was shorter than I thought it would be, but it was still cool to see them shooting off  in front of the Washington Monument. It was a pretty incredible sight.  And Leo seemed to like the fireworks- he pointed at them, and opened his mouth wide, with his 'suprised' expression.
It was fun spending the evening with a few hundred thousand of our closest friends!  I couldn't believe just how many people were there. It was pretty crazy.

When the show was over, we just walked back to our hotel room (We found a good deal on a hotel that was just 3 blocks from Capitol Hill) and went to bed at a semi-decent hour.  I'm so glad we did, because the crowds were insane and I know it would have taken us several hours to get home on the metro!

We are so thankful to live in this great nation, and for the many freedoms we enjoy...

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.
