These photos are of the installation I did for my thesis show for the completion of my MFA at California State University Long Beach in 2004. The title was Nexus, and it referenced the complex web of my genealogy.
For the last few years I have been interested in using the nest as a metaphor for home and family.
This piece contains 98 wooden cubes covered with photos of my family and ancestors. One side of the cubes has a family tree chart and one side has the image of a tree. The cubes can be rotated to view each side.
This pieces was created with wax and dye on fabric.
These pieces were created by dyeing paper with natural dyes made from onion skins, beets and leaves.
This installation, entitled Rooted also deals with the complex ancestory from which we come.
